Ringing in the New Year

imageHello 2016!

Well, our holiday celebrations have continued! We spent New Years Eve and New Years Day with my side of the family.

It was a combination of celebrating New Years and Christmas, so there was still Christmas music, stockings, and all the classic Christmas eats and treat!!

Here are some of the highlights ๐Ÿ™‚

Of course first off is time with family!!

There as also lots of having fun and playing with all the new toys my nephew got… I think the adults has just as much fun as my nephew!

And tons of yummy food ๐Ÿ™‚ image

This Christmas was not without excitement!!

You can’t celebrate the holidays without a nice roaring fire. Well… the handle to open flue was pulled out just a bit too much and the flue disconnect and shut… now the problem was the the fire was already going!!!

But men to the rescue!! My husband, dad, uncle, and brother-in-law put out the fire and even fixed the broken flue!! No harm done!

Well, 2016 is already turning out to be a fantastic year ๐Ÿ™‚

Happy New Year!

Road Trip Essentials

It’s Christmas Eve!! One day to go!!

Well, my husband and I are heading out today a road trip out to visit some family, which means 7ish hours on the road.

We have done this same road trips a number of times and have our list of ‘dos’ and ‘donts’ for a good road trip!

Here are a few of our Road Trip Essentials that we always have packed with us!

  1. Snacks.

This is the make it or break it.

Naturally, with both of us having a sweet tooth, a road trip seems like the perfect time to eat some candy or other sweet treat. DON’T DO IT!!! Believe me, you will feel gross by the time your road trip is over. We like to pack veggies, crackers, cheese, fruit, granola bars, and other healthy munches, that way we don’t have any sugar crashes or stomach aches.

Here is one idea for ‘to-go’ veggies. Cut them up and pop them into a jar with some dip at the bottom. Less fuss, and just put the lid back on the jar when you are done.

2. Water.

I don’t know about you, but I hate taking bathroom breaks. And there is always that possibility that you drink a lot of water and then there isn’t a bathroom in sight!

Either way, it is worth the risk, drink water! You will avoid getting dehydrated and avoid getting a headache.

3. Comfy Clothes and Layers.

I like to wear light layers for a road trip; I can take off a few layers if I’m warm or add a layer if it gets cool. Also looser clothes are always better so that its more comfortable for sitting all day long! And always pick shoes that don’t tie! That way you can easily slip them on for a bathroom break ๐Ÿ™‚

4. Books/Music/Podcast

Both of us usually load our iPods with music and podcasts and then we switch between chatting and listening to something. Remember to have you iPod fully charged!! I’m generally the passenger, so I always pack a book or two as another option ๐Ÿ™‚

Well! We are off ๐Ÿ™‚ 7 hours here we come!

Happy Christmas Eve!!

Christmas Count Down: Bring on the Festivities

imageHappy Monday!!

Well, it’s Christmas week!

And there are only 4 days to go until Christmas!!

And the festivities are in full swing ๐Ÿ™‚ I think that may be why December is just flying by! I can’t believe how quickly this season has gone!

Of course my Elf on the Shelf has been sneaking in the last few dates and treats before Christmas!!

My husband and I have been powering through Christmas Cards… I think next year we are going to start this process earlier!!

… And of course there has been baking…

… and more baking… and even some cookie decorating…YUM!

Look at those cute little fingers, getting ready to cookie decorate!! My nephew loved this, especially the taste testing part!!

I even started packing for our trip out to Saskatchewan for Christmas. I am the slowest packer there is, so getting the packing process started this past weekend is a much better idea than staying up past midnight on the 23rd! image

With all the glitter, fun, excitement, and busyness, I love quiet evenings with my husband where we can rest, watch the tree lights, and be reminded that this advent season is about the wonder, excitement, and celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ.

Merry Christmas!!

Winter Family Photo Shoot

Are weekends the best or what?!

Yesterday my family braved the cold to get some nice family pictures!!

It looked so beautiful with the little bit of frost and snow and the covering of fog… and you can’t even tell we’re cold ๐Ÿ™‚

I think we are all super happy to have my sister, brother-in-law, and nephew back in town!!!!

Such a cute little family!!

And these love birds!!

Photo credit goes to my sister!! And she even kindly braved the cold to take a few more pictures of Mark and I ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ll be sharing more photos later!!

Happy Sunday!!

Elf of the Shelf: Spouse Edition

25Continuing the Christmas count down, we’re at 25 days!!!

Now, Mondays have usually been ‘Simple Meal Mondays’ but because of the Christmas season, Mondays are taking a Holiday twist.

You’ve probably heard about Elf on the Shelf… well here is my version!

Elf on the shelf: Spouse Edition.

Why should kids have all the fun ๐Ÿ™‚

Meet my elf!

This elf will be making its first appearance December 1, but here is a sneak peak ๐Ÿ™‚

I found this elfย  ‘ornament’ at a craft store and the best part is that you can insert a picture of your face! This ornament makes the perfect elf for my elf on the shelf, and its bound to get a few laughs from my husband!!

I’ve prepped some date night ideas and other surprises for my husband as a Christmas count down throughout December and each Monday I’ll share a post with an update on what my elf on the shelf has been up to!!

Here’s a preview of my Elf on the Shelf: Spouse Edition introduction letter!!

Get ready for more festive fun to come!
