Christmas Craft Countdown: DIY Burlap Garland

29 Days29 days till Christmas!! Less than a month! YAY!!

The Christmas decorations are slowly being put up around our house! It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas πŸ™‚

We even got our tree up this past weekend.

To me Christmas means craft time!

So, I made a burlap garland for our tree this year. So easy to make! And I love the way it turned out!

To make burlap garland you only need three things:

Burlap, a glue gun and some Christmas lights.

image

The Burlap roll I used was about 5 inches across, which worked great, I had just enough room to feed the lights through.

Here is what you do:

1.Using your glue gun glue the burlap in half. Just do a little bit at a time that way the glue doesn’t dry before you can stick the sides together. Make sure you leave both ends open!

image

2. Once you are down gluing leave your garland to dry/set before you feed the lights through.

3. Feed your lights through the glued burlap.

4. Done! That easy πŸ™‚ And its so pretty!!

Here’s how the garland looks on our tree. First ornament is up!

This is your sneak peak, I’ll be sharing the rest of our tree decorating on tomorrow’s Friday Favorites!

Christmas Craft Count Down: DIY Advent Calendar

Advent Calendar DIY5 weeks till Christmas!! 36 days!!

I have slowly been pulling out our Christmas decorations and working on a few Christmas projects so that I will be all ready for December!

One make-ahead project that was on the top of my list was an advent calendar! It’s one of those things that need to be done before December!

I looked around for different DIY advent calendar ideas, there are so many cute ones!! And I settled on something simple πŸ™‚

My DIY advent calendar is made up of tiny boxes. You can open the lids and fill the box with little treats for each of the 25 days.

This DIY is super easy. Here’s what you need:

  • 25 mini boxes (I found mine in the wedding section of the craft store)
  • Scrapbook paper (a few different colors and patterns to make it pretty)
  • Number stickers (1-25)
  • Other decorative stickers
  • glue gun and glue stick

image

Make sure you have 25 boxes, mine came flat, so I had to assemble them.

Cut out the scrapbook paper into squares that are the size of your boxes.

Glue the square paper on the lid of your box, add a number, and other stickers or decorations you have!

image

Then start gluing your boxes together!

You can make a pyramid with your boxes, or a square or any other shape you want. Make sure you keep the lid at the front and be careful not to glue it shut. You want to be able to open the boxes to add treats into the calendar, and to get the treats out when its time to count down!

I went with a simple square shape. 5 rows of 5 boxes. I started at the bottom with #24 and#25, then started to work my way up row by row!

Eventually you’ll end up with this πŸ™‚

image

I just couldn’t decide which colors to go with. The classic red and green or a winter wonderland blue and white!! I decided to make two!

All that’s left is to add in your candy!!

I’m all ready to count down to Christmas!!

Fall Flavors: Pumpkin Spice Coffee Creamer

IMG_5310In my opinion some of the best things about fall are all the warm flavors that go along with the season.

Cinnamon, nutmeg, pumpkin, apple…

And what is better than mixing some of these wonderful flavors with coffee!!

I love the treat of having a pumpkin spice latte…

…So why not come up with someway to have those yummy flavors in my coffee everyday!?!

I did some looking around and there are a whole bunch of different ideas on how to get those sweet and spicy pumpkin flavors at home. So after reading through a bunch of different recipes, I came up with my own!!

I’ve made my own coffee creamer before, and it was super good, so I figured I would wing while keeping a the basics of making your own coffee creamer in mind (aka milk/cream, sweeten condensed milk or evaporated milk and then your flavors). And it turned out SO good!!

Getting Organized: Daily Outfit Labels

IMG_4315YAY its the weekend!!!!

Time to relax, have fun… and for me a chance to get organized for the week πŸ™‚

Earlier in the month I posted a make-ahead lunch idea for the work week in Getting Organized: Jar Salads.

And today I have a second ‘getting organized’ tip to share.

This is not so much a ‘tip’ as much as it is my own attempt to get myself organized…and an excuse to do some crafts!!

I don’t know about you… but for me mornings are always a huge rush. Usually from try to steal that extra 5 or 10 (or 45…panic!!) minutes of sleep.

Which generally leads to the biggest disaster of trying to figure out what to wear. Ugg.

For some reason on those rushed mornings every piece of clothing I actuallyΒ want to wear is either wrinkly, dirty, or hiding somewhere. I don’t know how this happens…it just does.

Sometimes I wish I just had a uniform, it would save so much time πŸ™‚

Anyways, I was chatting with a friend about this, and she mentioned that at one point she had these little labels to put on her hangers as a way to organize her outfits for the week.

…Sounds like the perfect DIY idea to me!!!

So I stopped by the craft store to scope out their supplies. I had an idea in my mind of what I was going for and managed to find just what I needed to bring that idea to life!

IMG_4349

I picked up these little chalk board plaques, and decided to go with stickers rather than handwriting on the letters (look at those colorful patters! Obvious choice). And I add the paper flowers for an extra touch.

IMG_4319

Here’s what you do, it’s super simple:

Pick your sticker and stick it on, this one is my ‘F’ for ‘Friday’ (I labeled the plaques M, T, W, T, F, S, S, aka. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday…etc.) and then glue on the flower.

And VOILA! You are done.

This DIY probably took me 10 minutes total, and these outfit labels ended up so cute!!!

Now all I have to do is make sure I’m disciplined enough to pick my outfits out for the week!!

I’ll be giving these outfit labels a try starting Monday, here’s hoping they will save me some time in mornings!

We’ll see how it goes πŸ™‚
