Ringing in the New Year

imageHello 2016!

Well, our holiday celebrations have continued! We spent New Years Eve and New Years Day with my side of the family.

It was a combination of celebrating New Years and Christmas, so there was still Christmas music, stockings, and all the classic Christmas eats and treat!!

Here are some of the highlights 🙂

Of course first off is time with family!!

There as also lots of having fun and playing with all the new toys my nephew got… I think the adults has just as much fun as my nephew!

And tons of yummy food 🙂 image

This Christmas was not without excitement!!

You can’t celebrate the holidays without a nice roaring fire. Well… the handle to open flue was pulled out just a bit too much and the flue disconnect and shut… now the problem was the the fire was already going!!!

But men to the rescue!! My husband, dad, uncle, and brother-in-law put out the fire and even fixed the broken flue!! No harm done!

Well, 2016 is already turning out to be a fantastic year 🙂

Happy New Year!

Christmas at the Farm

imageHome again!

The first half of our Christmas celebrations have passed. So sad!!

Our road trip to visit family began on December 24th, and we arrived back home last night.

The days in-between were packed with family, friends, fun and games, cute little nieces and nephews, lots of sweet treats, 3 turkey dinners and so much more!

There is something so peaceful and quiet about getting out of the city. The open fields and big skys are so beautiful! And despite it being a bit chilly we did manage to fit a walk in to enjoy it 🙂

My sister-in-law’s cute little family just got settled into a new home this past fall, so it was so fun to spend time at their new place, chat and catch up, play with the kids, and make some more memories!

Well, that is just a small snip-it of our time away!  I can’t believe how quickly the holidays are flying by!image

Christmas Part 2 with my side of the family starts on the 31st!

We’ll be using these days leading to digest all that good food from our trip:) and get ready for more holiday fun!

Road Trip Essentials

It’s Christmas Eve!! One day to go!!

Well, my husband and I are heading out today a road trip out to visit some family, which means 7ish hours on the road.

We have done this same road trips a number of times and have our list of ‘dos’ and ‘donts’ for a good road trip!

Here are a few of our Road Trip Essentials that we always have packed with us!

  1. Snacks.

This is the make it or break it.

Naturally, with both of us having a sweet tooth, a road trip seems like the perfect time to eat some candy or other sweet treat. DON’T DO IT!!! Believe me, you will feel gross by the time your road trip is over. We like to pack veggies, crackers, cheese, fruit, granola bars, and other healthy munches, that way we don’t have any sugar crashes or stomach aches.

Here is one idea for ‘to-go’ veggies. Cut them up and pop them into a jar with some dip at the bottom. Less fuss, and just put the lid back on the jar when you are done.

2. Water.

I don’t know about you, but I hate taking bathroom breaks. And there is always that possibility that you drink a lot of water and then there isn’t a bathroom in sight!

Either way, it is worth the risk, drink water! You will avoid getting dehydrated and avoid getting a headache.

3. Comfy Clothes and Layers.

I like to wear light layers for a road trip; I can take off a few layers if I’m warm or add a layer if it gets cool. Also looser clothes are always better so that its more comfortable for sitting all day long! And always pick shoes that don’t tie! That way you can easily slip them on for a bathroom break 🙂

4. Books/Music/Podcast

Both of us usually load our iPods with music and podcasts and then we switch between chatting and listening to something. Remember to have you iPod fully charged!! I’m generally the passenger, so I always pack a book or two as another option 🙂

Well! We are off 🙂 7 hours here we come!

Happy Christmas Eve!!
